Sign of the Times

Jake lives just a few blocks from Invesco Field now. He’s familiar with this area, having been across the highway last year, and also had an exclusive opportunity to go on the Broncos’ field. Traffic can be heavy on game days but the traffic control plan is smooth. On the way back from our new park this Sunday morning, we spotted this cluster of signs prior to setup. Funny message with conflicting directions.

Like Cats and Dogs

During the peak of Nuggets-mania in 2009, I took Jake down to the Pepsi Center and shot a pic of him wearing a Walter Davis jersey in front of the arena. I had this insane idea about doing a photo shoot with Jake and the Nuggets’ super-mascot, Rocky, on the court. I worked for the team from 1986 to 1996 and still have many great friends there. I figured it would be a “slam dunk” (sorry, couldn’t resist). But we ran out of time. The Nuggets were out of the NBA Playoffs before I could line the shot up. And of course, there was no way this dog would be around for the 2010 playoffs. Wrong. Here’s Jake inside the Pepsi Center before the doors opened for Game 5 vs. the Utah Jazz. (And don't forget, he's already been on Invesco Field. What's next? Maybe the pitcher's mound at Coors Field?)

Lesson learned: Dream big and ignore the shot clock.

Ride a White Horse

Back in May, Jake and I were taking photos around the Children’s Museum and I spotted the sign nearby for Gates Crescent Park. Of course we needed to snag a shot for our collection of Denver Parks. I noted that Invesco Field was in the background across the highway and that it would be fun to try to get Jake on the turf somehow. So here you go. Jake down on the Bronco’s home field. This one was an awesome experience. I’ve been to plenty of games both here and at the old Mile High Stadium but I’ve never had an opportunity to stand on the actual turf. Sometimes Jake helps me do something new, too. Training camp starts today…Go Broncos!

Coat of Many Colors

I worked for the Denver Nuggets/Colorado Avalanche from 1986 to 1996. Made some really lasting friendships there. Absolutely LOVE the fact that the community is finally on the Nuggets bandwagon. Where have you guys been??? Jake’s wearing the jersey of my all-time favorite NBA player, Walter Davis. That ain’t no replica or “authentic” jersey. It was really his. And no, it’s not for sale, even though people are suddenly kookoo for the old school stuff. You could not give that Crayola merchandise away back in the day. Did you know Walt’s nickname was “The Greyhound”? Um, and oh yeah…BEAT L.A.!
